Today is memorial day. I have been thinking about this day all week. It all started innocently with Ellen. A few days ago I was flipping through the channels and came across a suffer dude on the Ellen show. He was talking about a foundation he works with to save starving dogs. He was surfing in Puerto Rico and went to a beach the locals call 'dead dog beach'. He started to feed them and now you too can help him save Puerto Rico's dogs. I was impressed. Then, the next day I flipped to the View. Harrison Ford was on talking about his new Indiana Jones movie (which is pretty good, we saw it on Saturday.) I only saw 10 seconds of his interview. He was talking about saving trees in some South American country. I got the saddest feeling. How is it that people want to save dogs and trees but the don't want to give another nation freedom, and liberty? Why do people who have influence care more about polar bears and global warming than to help make the world safer by promoting freedom. I think the media and news does our nation a horrible injustice. It brings up topics that are trivial and passes them for mainstream and important, meanwhile most Americans don't know about what is going on in the rest of the world. It is true that people here are giving up a lot for another country, sometimes they give all. My second grade class this year was blessed to send packages to a Lt. Col. in the air force. They wrote him notes and we sent gifts at Christmas. At the end of the year he had some leave and came to visit our class. The kids were so excited. He talked to our class then they got to ask him questions. Our principal was there and he asked the Lt. Col. to talk about why we were over in Iraq. Now remember his audience was 8 year olds. He searched for words that they would understand and he said, "We are over there to help them have the same blessing we have. We are there to help them help themselves. If we weren't there or just left now another country would come into Iraq and take them over and they wouldn't be able to protect themselves. They once again would be under someone else's control."
In the news we hear about how many Americans have died. The last time I heard this count the number was just about at 4, ooo. That number is a big number. If you compare that number to other wars the US have been in that number is tiny. I found an intresting sight today it talks about how many people have died in comparson to how many people possibly have survived.
http://www.logictimes.com/antiwar.htmI decided to honor the vetrans I would support freedom and libery. It might not be an easy thing to do, but that is my goal. Happy Memorial Day. Enjoy the day! We went to the lake and had such a great time.
