Just Around The Corner......

This past weekend we went to Supi. Supi is on an Indian reservation. It is the only town in the US were the mail is carried in and out by mule. There are no roads to Supi, just this trail:

It is 8 miles from the parking lot to Supi. Then you can camp 2 miles past Supi. We the tough (or crazy) people that we are, we backpacked in. Now, this isn't really crazy because my dad and I backpacked Mt. Charleston last fall. Mt. Charleston is a 17 mile hike. I had a 25 pound pack the entire way. So - I thought I was prepared. I was a little sore that night but we were all having fun.

Hey!! Only 2 miles to Supi, and 4 to camp! The joke was OH! its just around the next corner. . . Oh well, really this time its only just around this corner. . . . oh well..... this corner....

We finally made it and this is what the town looks like:

It felt so tiny. I found out that about 600 people live here. I only saw like maybe 20 homes. I think other homes are in side canyons. We also saw two churches. This is a picture of one:

Look familiar? On the way out we came across a skinny older white guy pulling a cart. He had a name tag on... hum? Just Joking. We got to stop and talk to him for a while. This is his and his wife's 6th mission. They have been in Supi for 4 months and will for sure stay for 6 months. He said that there are about 60 members and about 10 of those are active. They stay in a room in the church you see above.

We ate at Supi and then trudged on. Once we were almost there we saw this waterfall. . . At this point we were getting very excited to stop. I desperately wanted to get into the water!! I wanted to stop walking!

Another water fall: At the base of this fall was the camp!! If you look hard you can see some people swimming.
This was our camp: we slept under the stars on mats.
We camped on the less populated side of the river. We either had to cross way below on some planks or anywhere else we could find. This is the best place we found to cross. Just a little scary if you don't want to get wet... Pretty water around our camp: That night we set up camp then hiked down to another waterfall. It was a little scary. There were two tunnels.
And then it was strait down with chains to hold and chiseled steps out of this sheer cliff. The last 15 feet was a metal latter . This is me going down.
You can kind of see Aaron, Shane and Dad as they climb down. It was worth the scary feeling I had. Mooney Falls: There was an awesome rope swing down here. The water was kinda chilly but it felt so so good. We had a blast!! We had the mules hike our packs out and I still barley made it out.
